When I joined the RCMP, nobody ever told me that one of these days I would be doing a weekly article in a newspaper. But I got used to the weekly article over the years. Now, one thing for sure is that no one ever told me that I would eventually write one as well for a web page every month. One of the main reason is that the internet was not as popular back then. My reading audience just got a boost, from the immediate area to the whole world... Wow! This is what I like about this job, from one day to another you never know what you will end up doing. 

A bit of personal background now, I joined the RCMP in Montreal in 1989. Shortly after, they sent me to Ottawa for language training for six months. The main reason for that was that at the time I could not speak a word of English (another reason to be surprised about writing articles in English). After six months they sent me to the RCMP training academy (known as Depot) in Regina, Saskatchewan. Upon completion of the basic training I was transferred to Port-Aux-Basques. I realized fast enough that the English that I had learned in Ottawa was quite different from the English in Port aux Basques. It took me an additional six months to adapt to this new challenge. After five years spent in Port aux Basques, I was transferred to the Harbour Grace Detachment.
